It's raining animals!

Boyboy has been asking to go to the zoo again. What's new? Haha...

Hubby and I have been contemplating whether to renew our zoo membership, which will expire on Boyboy's birthday. I guess we should then!

Anyway, we left the house with grey skies above, and were thinking of turning back as the clouds grew darker near to Mandai. But the boy insisted he wanted to see the giraffes. When we reached the zoo it was pouring; the kind of rain you can't sit out.

Mrs Condom Head -_-"

Took some effort from Mummy to convince Boyboy to wear the raincoats we bought from the zoo. Initially he insisted on sitting in his pram, which has a rain cover. I tempted him by showing how I was able to skip in the rain, stepping on puddles, and he finally gave in ;)

Stomp! Stomp! Stomp!

It was a great experience! The rain actually lured out all the animals who are usually sleeping or hiding. The monkeys were going "woot woot" like nobody's business, and for the first time the lion was walking around instead of lazing.

Enjoying walking in the rain!

Very irritating... Boyboy always insists on going to the zoo to see the elephants, but when we are actually there he just gives them a cursory look. Chey!!!!

Peeping at the giraffes.

Because the bathing and feeding sessions were cancelled due to the rain, we ventured all the way in to the elephants enclosure and found the keepers training them to 'bathe' and push logs.

I don't like the tone of the keepers' voice when talking to the elephants. Very harsh and rude. But not sure, maybe that's the way to talk to them so they listen? Feel very bad for the elephants :(

Singing the elephant song.

Am conflicted about the concept of zoos. Obviously the animals have less quality of life compared to being in the wild, no matter how well-designed their enclosures are. Even for S'pore Zoological Gardens, the animals are kept in cages for the night.

I especially pity the white tigers who pace their enclosures, showing stress. Seriously, the enclosures are too small for animals used to running free.

Yet... without the zoo, my boy would not be able to see these animals in real life, and appreciate and love them more. So it's really conflicting as a parent. Sigh...
